All students in Year 12 complete the Pre-Degree Diploma Course as part of our university preparation programme. Students have a timetabled class for one hour each week, working with like-minded students and being taught by experts in the subject area they plan to study at university.

During this time students gain deeper level knowledge and skills in the areas that they are interested in studying at university. You are asked to study outside of the curriculum and at a higher level, with weekly reading and assignments set by tutors to direct your learning.

At the end of Year 12, the students then work in groups to complete a project related to their area and then present their findings to their fellow students. These are them judged and four projects are selected for the Pre Degree Diploma final, where they present their projects to a panel of teachers.

The most important outcome from the Pre-Degree Diploma is to allows students to develop and demonstrate a passion and a love for their subject. As these are what university admissions tutors really look for in applicants. They help Abbey College Cambridge students to ‘stand out’ from other applicants to the most competitive universities.
